STAIR CHAIR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Can you install a stair lift on curved or spiral stairs?

At Custom Home Elevator, we've never met a set of stairs we couldn't put a lift on. Stair lifts can run on either side of the stairs. They can take an inside or outside curve and maneuver through landings - easily managing 90 and 180-degree turns.

  • Can you install a stair lift outside?

Yes. In fact, there are models specifically manufactured with outdoor conditions in mind. An outdoor unit is weatherized to protect against the elements and comes with a chair cover. To prevent unauthorized use by others, it is equipped with a keyed operation system.

  • How much weight can a stair chair hold?

It depends on the manufacturer of the lift, but a stair chair can accommodate up to 400 pounds.

  • What happens when the electricity goes out?

Many stair lifts provided by Custom Home Elevator operate on battery power when you've lost power to your home.

  • Is a stair lift the same as a stairglide?

Stair lifts are called many different names, including stairglide, stair chair, chair lift, battery-powered chair, stairway lift, stairway elevator, staircase chair and stair climber. They're also thought of as home medical equipment and durable medical equipment.

  • Is the cost of a stair lift covered by my medical insurance or Medicare?

Medicare does not cover the cost of a stair lift. Some private insurers do. Check your policy or talk with your agent to determine what applies in your situation.

  • Is there any regret homeowners have expressed about installing a stair lift?

In more than 15 years of the founder's experience the only regret he's heard is: Why did I wait so long?
